Before you write

If you hold Indian citizenship, the first question is not about cost or timing. It is whether you understand that acquiring another nationality ends your Indian citizenship automatically, and whether you have taken advice on that from Indian counsel. An enquiry that has not settled this is premature, and we will say so rather than proceed.

What helps in a first message

• Whether you currently hold Indian citizenship, OCI, or another nationality alongside it.
• Whether you have established your position under Indian nationality law, and with whom.
• What you want the second passport to do — travel, business mobility, contingency.
• Whether the application would cover you alone or a family, with children's ages.
• Every country you have lived in for six months or more in the past decade.
• How the funds were accumulated and what records evidence it. Income tax returns and bank statements usually form the backbone.
• Anything adverse in your background — screening will surface it regardless.

Not through the form

Tax returns, bank statements, passport scans, Aadhaar or PAN details. None are needed to answer a question and a web form is the wrong channel for any of them.

How enquiries are handled

Confidentially, and only to reply. Nothing is sold or passed on for marketing; retention is covered in the privacy policy. An automated filter screens submissions and is occasionally wrong, so silence past a few working days deserves a second attempt.

Two things no reply will contain: an assurance that an application will be approved, and advice on Indian nationality law. The first belongs to the Citizenship Commission, the second to a lawyer qualified in India.
